Voices Over the Water premiered on May 13th 2023 at the Directors Guild Theater in New York City to a capacity crowd. The audience of over 400 people consisted of industry professionals, participants, historians, interviewees, friends, journalists, fellow documentarians, members of the Explorers Club, and supporters of the film from the U.S, the U.K., and elsewhere.

Festivities kicked off with a lively introduction from actor Robert Ian MacKenzie, who plays Highlander Donald McLeod in a historic re-enactment of an exchange with author Harriet Beecher Stowe. MacKenzie introduced the film’s directors Guy Perrotta and Jane Ferguson, who each welcomed the audience. Remarks followed from historian advisor, Professor Michael Newton; associate producer, June Skinner Sawyers; and New York Caledonian Club 85th Chief, Lorraine Bell.

Ernest Gilchrist, an interviewee in the documentary and author of Fusion of Cultures: The Spirit of ArgyllAmerica Revealed, provided remarks on understanding cultural dynamics, which stirred the audience.

Author Bruce Hallenbeck asked several questions on the shooting of the documentary, reflecting his background as author of numerous books and articles on cinema.

A rousing song in Gaelic, Another Day, was sung by the incomparable trio, The Highland Divas.

Following the screening, Guy and Jane were interviewed by Stephanie Zacharek, film critic for Time magazine, and then took some questions from the audience.

A lively after party took place later that evening at The Grisly Pear in Times Square, a club owned and operated by ex-pat Scot, Gary Miller.
